Lantana residents are being urged to boil their tap water after state regulators issued a mandatory boil water notice for the area. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality stepped in following a water main break combined with a power failure that caused a significant drop in water pressure.
The pressure in the system fell below 20 PSI which triggered the mandatory notice under state guidelines. While no contaminants were detected in the water supply officials are required by law to issue the warning whenever pressure drops to that level.
Residents are directed to bring water to a full rolling boil for a minimum of two minutes before using it for drinking cooking or brushing teeth. Health officials emphasize that this precaution is especially critical for children elderly residents and individuals with compromised immune systems who face greater risks from potential bacterial exposure.
The boil water notice applies to all customers served by the affected water system regardless of how the water will be used for human consumption. Residents should also use boiled or bottled water when preparing food or making ice until further notice.
Water system officials will formally notify customers once testing confirms the supply is safe and the threat has passed. A separate rescission notice will be issued to the public when the boil water order is officially lifted.
