An 18-year-old Dallas woman is dead after losing control of her vehicle on North Walton Walker Boulevard last week and surveillance footage from a nearby business captured the terrifying moment her car flipped off the road.
Serenity Rangel had her whole life ahead of her. She had recently graduated from Nimitz High School and was taking classes at a local community college when the fatal crash cut her life short just weeks before her 19th birthday.
Her mother Noemi Rangel-Chacon described her daughter as her firstborn and her greatest joy. Candles now line a memorial inside the family home where laughter once filled the rooms.
Friends say Serenity was on her way to her boyfriend’s house the night of the crash. Her friend Jayla Carrizales said she first learned of the tragedy through a message expressing condolences and initially had no idea what had happened.
Carrizales said she called Serenity’s grandmother to find out what was going on and it was Serenity’s uncle who answered and delivered the devastating news. The shock of losing her friend so suddenly has left Carrizales with questions she fears will never be answered.
Rangel-Chacon is now urging other drivers to slow down and take road safety seriously. She admitted that she herself has sped before and said this tragedy is a reminder that no one truly knows what can happen on the road at any moment.
The family is currently raising funds to cover funeral expenses as they prepare to say their final goodbye. Serenity’s loved ones chose to speak publicly about the crash in the days immediately following hoping their grief might prevent another family from experiencing the same loss.
Dallas police have confirmed the crash remains under active investigation and no further details about the cause have been released.
