Disgraced hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs has been moved to a new federal correctional facility in Pennsylvania, the Federal Bureau of Prisons confirmed. Combs was transferred from Fort Dix federal prison in New Jersey to FCI Allenwood Low in Pennsylvania.
The transfer comes approximately two weeks after a bombshell NBC News investigation revealed that Combs had been living a lavish lifestyle behind bars. According to multiple former inmates who shared the same housing unit, Combs was paying fellow prisoners to cook his meals, clean his cell, do his laundry, make his bed and even perform Chinese-style massages.
The report also included footage reviewed by NBC News showing Combs allegedly using a contraband cellphone inside the prison. Former Bureau of Prisons investigator Vito Maraviglia said Fort Dix is widely regarded as one of the most lenient facilities in the federal system and noted that its layout makes contraband harder to detect.
“A high-profile guy like that with all that money I’m surprised they put him at a place like Fort Dix” Maraviglia said.
The Bureau of Prisons declined to explain the specific reasons for the transfer citing privacy and security policies. Prison experts noted that inmates are often moved to a special housing unit when they become subjects of an internal investigation.
Combs arrived at Fort Dix last October after being sentenced to 50 months in federal prison for transporting individuals across state lines for sexual encounters. His trial in New York centered on drug-fueled events he allegedly organized involving male sex workers and former girlfriends. A jury found him not guilty on the most serious charges of sex trafficking and racketeering but convicted him on other counts.
This is not the first time Combs has faced disciplinary issues at Fort Dix. He was previously placed in solitary confinement after getting into a physical altercation with another inmate and was later removed from a drug treatment program at the facility.
Attorney Gloria Allred who represents a woman suing Combs over separate rape allegations called for an immediate federal investigation into his conduct inside the prison. “These serious allegations against Mr. Combs cry out for an immediate federal investigation and appropriate federal action” Allred said in a statement.
Combs has denied the rape allegations and his legal team continues to appeal his conviction. His move to the Pennsylvania facility signals that federal authorities may be taking a closer look at how he was operating inside the New Jersey prison.
