A pre-dawn house fire in Grand Prairie turned deadly early Saturday after two people were found trapped inside a fully engulfed home, leaving both dead and a firefighter hospitalized with injuries.

Grand Prairie Fire Department units were dispatched to the 3600 block of Green Hollow Drive at around 4:48 a.m. following reports of a residential fire with occupants possibly trapped inside.

When crews arrived on scene they were met with a home completely consumed by flames and a roof that had already begun to collapse. The severity of the fire presented immediate challenges for firefighters attempting to reach those inside.

During an initial interior search firefighters located a man and were able to pull him out through a window. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries and was later pronounced dead.

With one victim removed crews pressed on to find the second person reported trapped inside. However deteriorating structural conditions forced firefighters to pull back as walls began to give way and the home’s integrity rapidly failed.

A woman was subsequently located inside the structure and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet released the identities of either victim.

One Grand Prairie firefighter sustained minor injuries during the operation and was transported to a local hospital for evaluation. That firefighter has since been released.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation and no further details have been released regarding what may have sparked the blaze.
