A fatal shooting outside a Garland business early Saturday morning has left one man dead and another behind bars facing a murder charge.
Garland Police were dispatched to the 500 block of West Oates Road around 2 a.m. after callers reported a person had been shot outside a business in the area. Arriving officers located a man with a gunshot wound who was later pronounced dead at the scene by Garland Fire Department paramedics.
Investigators determined that the victim and the suspect had gotten into a heated argument inside the business earlier that evening. Authorities believe the confrontation escalated after the business closed and the suspect followed the victim into the parking lot and opened fire.
The suspect fled the scene in a white Ford F-250 following the shooting. Detectives tracked the vehicle to a residence in the 1300 block of Summit Street in Mesquite where they located both the truck and the suspect.
Authorities identified the suspect as 31-year-old Ezequiel Hernandez and took him into custody without further incident. He has been formally charged with murder and is currently held at the Garland Detention Center with no bail as of October 17.
The identity of the victim has not yet been released by police pending notification of next of kin. The investigation remains active and authorities have not disclosed whether any additional suspects are being sought in connection with the shooting.
