Hundreds of mourners packed Canton on Friday to say a final goodbye to Van Zandt County Sheriff’s Deputy Adam Sherifi, who was recently killed while serving his community. Law enforcement officers from across the region traveled to attend the emotional service, offering a last salute to a man who gave his life wearing badge 1805.

Those who knew Sherifi described him as someone whose presence could transform any room the moment he walked in. “That guy would light up a whole room instantly. He always stole the spotlight” said his friend Caden Hammond, who remembered Sherifi as a genuinely joyful and generous person.

Beyond his badge, Sherifi was a devoted son, a loving husband and a father of three children. His closest friends gathered during the service to share memories and reaffirm promises made long ago as young men to always look after one another’s families no matter what.

Friend Justin McCloskey made a heartfelt vow directly to Sherifi’s wife Kyleigh during the service. “Brother I promise you with my dying breath I will always be there for your family” McCloskey said, his voice heavy with emotion.

The grief hit especially close to home for Sherifi’s sister-in-law Makenna Swallow, who recalled a casual family fish fry just the Sunday before his death. “I had no idea that would be my last time seeing and talking to my buddy” Swallow said, struggling through tears as she reflected on the sudden and devastating loss.

Swallow also spoke warmly about the deep love Sherifi had for his wife and children, painting a picture of a man fully committed to the people he cherished most.

As the public service concluded, Sherifi’s family quietly made their way to a private burial, surrounded by those closest to them. For the hundreds who gathered and for the law enforcement community across North Texas, the day served as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by those who choose to serve and protect.
