A 30-year-old man is accused of fatally shooting his wife and their 6-year-old daughter before killing himself inside a Richardson apartment, authorities said — a suspected murder-suicide discovered after a family member called police for a welfare check.
Richardson police responded at approximately 5:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 15, to an apartment in the 500 block of East Buckingham Road after a concerned family member who was not at home requested officers check on the residents. When officers entered the apartment, they found three people dead inside.
The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the adult victims as Katherine Milena Guadron Orantes, 28, and Hector Giovanni Herrera Herrera, 30. A 6-year-old girl was also found dead. The child’s name has not been released. Investigators determined that Guadron Orantes and the child died as a result of homicide, while Herrera Herrera died by suicide.
Richardson police have not officially confirmed the relationship between the three individuals, though investigators believe Herrera Herrera shot and killed his wife and daughter before turning the weapon on himself. No cause of death has been formally disclosed.
The motive for the shooting has not been released. The investigation remains ongoing.
Mental health resources have been made available for community members affected by the tragedy. Dallas-based Genesis Women’s Shelter and Support operates a 24-hour helpline for those experiencing domestic violence at 214-946-4357.
