A suspect was shot and killed Tuesday morning by officers from the Texas Attorney General’s Office while being served a warrant at an apartment complex in north Fort Worth, prompting a large law enforcement response near the Texas Motor Speedway and Tanger Outlets.

The shooting occurred around 11 a.m. at the 35 West at Champions Circle Apartments in the 3600 block of Outlet Boulevard, near Interstate 35W and State Highway 114. Members of the Texas Attorney General’s Office were in the process of serving a warrant when the suspect attacked officers. During the encounter, the suspect was fatally shot.

The Fort Worth Police Department responded to assist but confirmed the shooting did not involve any of their officers. Northlake police were also on scene in an assisting capacity only. Texas DPS confirmed awareness of the officer-involved shooting but did not provide additional details. The Texas Rangers, who investigate all officer-involved shootings in the state, were called to lead the investigation.

A resident who lives at the complex described her reaction to the incident. “Just the thought in the back of my mind that this could have happened even in a worse scenario, or it could have happened closer to me,” she said.

The identity of the suspect has not been released. No officers were reported injured. There is no ongoing threat to the public. The nature of the warrant that prompted the operation has not been disclosed. The investigation is ongoing.
