A pre-dawn confrontation between Plano police officers and a group of four suspects turned into a shooting at a Carrollton gas station Tuesday morning, leaving one person wounded by gunfire and another hospitalized with separate injuries.
The incident unfolded around 4:30 a.m. at a gas station parking lot along International Parkway near East Hebron Parkway in Carrollton. ,Plano police and Carrollton police responded to and are actively investigating the shooting near the gas station parking lot.,
According to Plano Police Department officials, officers had been conducting surveillance on a group of known suspects before the confrontation began. The group of four individuals, which included three juveniles and one adult, pulled into the gas station parking lot while officers were monitoring them. When officers moved in to approach the suspects, gunfire broke out.
Authorities stated that the suspects fired first and that officers responded by returning fire. One suspect was struck by police gunfire. A second individual was taken to a hospital for injuries that were not related to the shooting. The severity of both victims’ conditions had not been confirmed as of early Tuesday morning. Two additional suspects were taken into custody without further incident.
No law enforcement officers were reported injured during the exchange. The number of officers who were present or discharged their weapons during the confrontation had not been officially disclosed at the time of this report.
Jerry Minton, the Plano Police Department’s public information officer, addressed public safety concerns following the shooting. Minton confirmed that none of the individuals connected to the incident remained unaccounted for and that the community was not facing an ongoing threat from suspects still on the loose.
The investigation is being handled jointly by Plano Police, Carrollton Police, and the Plano Police Department’s Internal Affairs division. The involvement of Internal Affairs is standard procedure in officer-involved shooting cases in Texas, where independent review is required to assess whether the use of force was justified.
Officials noted that the suspects involved were not random individuals but rather people who had already been identified and placed under active surveillance prior to the shooting. The nature of the original investigation that led to the surveillance operation was not immediately released to the public.
The intersection of International Parkway and East Hebron Parkway saw a significant law enforcement presence in the early morning hours as investigators worked to process the scene and gather evidence. Residents in the surrounding area were not placed under any shelter-in-place orders given that all parties were accounted for.
Both the Plano and Carrollton police departments are expected to release additional details as the investigation progresses and the conditions of the two hospitalized individuals become clearer.
