A Dallas man who was reported missing has been found dead in a rural Oklahoma field, shot multiple times and partially burned, according to authorities investigating the case as a homicide.
The Love County Sheriff’s Office in southern Oklahoma responded to reports of a grass fire on July 30 and discovered the partially charred body of a man at the scene. Investigators later determined the victim had been shot four times in the chest before his remains were left in the field.
The local medical examiner was able to identify the man through his tattoos. Authorities confirmed he had been reported missing by someone in Dallas just one day earlier on July 29 though his name has not been publicly released as his family has only recently been notified of his death.
Investigators believe the shooting did not occur at the location where the body was found suggesting the victim was killed elsewhere and then transported to the field in Love County. The circumstances surrounding how and where he was shot remain under active investigation.
Love County sits in the southernmost part of Oklahoma along the Red River and shares a state line with North Texas. The area sits roughly 30 miles north of Denton placing it within close geographic proximity to the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.
