One person was killed and two others were wounded after a shooting erupted in a Dallas neighborhood in the early morning hours of Saturday, sending investigators to the scene as they work to identify and locate the person responsible.
Dallas Police Department officers were dispatched to the 2700 block of Exile Street shortly after 4:30 a.m. following reports of a shooting. When units arrived they discovered that three gunshot victims had already been transported to a nearby hospital by private vehicle before emergency services could respond.
Medical staff were unable to save one of the three victims who was pronounced dead at the hospital. The identities of those shot have not been released by authorities. The conditions of the two surviving victims remain unknown at this time.
No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting itself and investigators have not yet released a description of a potential suspect. The motive behind the triple shooting also remains unclear as detectives continue to piece together the events that led to the violence.
While the gunman remains at large a separate arrest was made at the scene under different circumstances. A 37-year-old man was taken into custody after he allegedly ignored crime scene tape and refused to follow directions from officers who were actively working the investigation. Police charged the man with Interference with Public Duties which is classified as a Class B misdemeanor under Texas law.
The pre-dawn shooting adds to ongoing concerns about gun violence in Dallas neighborhoods. Investigators are urging anyone with information about what happened on Exile Street to come forward and assist the ongoing investigation.
