A devastating late-night house fire in Parker County claimed the lives of a young mother and her two small children Monday, leaving a first responder husband and father to grieve an unimaginable loss.
Firefighters responded to a residence on Lake Country Drive shortly before 10 p.m. and arrived to find the structure fully engulfed in flames. Three people were reported missing from inside the home.
Crews from Parker County Emergency Services District 6 led the initial response and quickly called for backup from the Cresson and North Hood County volunteer fire departments. Once firefighters managed to breach the burning structure, they located two victims inside and discovered a third shortly after.
The victims were identified as Alexis Renfroe and her two children, Alekzander Joshua Renfroe age 10 and Cody Lock Jr. age 4. All three died in the fire.
The tragedy struck especially close to the first responder community because the victims were the wife and children of Herstle Renfroe, an eight-year veteran of Sacred Cross EMS and a volunteer firefighter with the Palo Pinto Volunteer Fire Department.
Palo Pinto County Emergency Services District 1 publicly honored the fallen family and expressed deep sorrow for one of their own. The agency noted that Herstle Renfroe had spent years rushing to help others during their worst moments and called on the community to now rally around him.
The response from neighbors and fellow first responders has been swift and heartfelt. Fundraising efforts were launched to help Herstle Renfroe as he faces the devastating aftermath of losing his family.
The Parker County Fire Marshal’s Office has opened a formal investigation into the cause and origin of the fire. No additional details about what may have sparked the blaze have been released.
The loss has sent shockwaves through the tight-knit first responder community across Parker and Palo Pinto counties. Colleagues who have worked alongside Herstle Renfroe for years are among those stepping forward to offer support during what officials described as an unthinkable tragedy.
Alexis Renfroe and her two young boys were remembered as part of a family that gave to the community through the service of a dedicated paramedic and volunteer firefighter. Their deaths have prompted an outpouring of grief from those who knew them personally and those who simply heard their story.
