A 17-year-old from Aubrey, Texas, has been identified as the suspect in a deadly stabbing at one of Boston’s busiest transit hubs, authorities announced Tuesday, setting off a multistate manhunt for the Denton County teenager.
Boston police and MBTA Transit Police named Marico Levy as the individual wanted on a murder charge in connection with the fatal stabbing of Latavius Owens, a 29-year-old man from Memphis, Tennessee. The violent encounter unfolded last Wednesday afternoon inside South Station during the evening commute rush.
Investigators say the confrontation began on an escalator leading toward an exit inside the station. The altercation escalated quickly and ended with Owens suffering a fatal stab wound. Emergency responders transported him to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
MBTA Transit Police first responded to reports of the stabbing at approximately 5:30 p.m. last Wednesday. Crime scene tape was stretched across a section of the station that evening, and witnesses reported seeing blood on one of the escalators that had been cordoned off by investigators.
Levy is described as standing 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing approximately 140 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. Surveillance footage captured inside South Station was released Tuesday by MBTA Transit Police in hopes that someone will recognize him and come forward with his location.
Authorities have not publicly disclosed where they believe Levy may currently be located or how investigators connected him to the crime. His current whereabouts remain unknown.
