A Sunday evening fire in a Dallas neighborhood left one firefighter hospitalized and two homes damaged after flames quickly spread from one residence to an adjacent property on Echo Bluff Drive.
Dallas Fire-Rescue crews responded to a 911 call at approximately 6:26 p.m. reporting a house fire at 6931 Echo Bluff Drive. Upon arrival firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions concentrated at the rear of the single-story home.
Crews immediately deployed hand lines and launched an offensive attack in an effort to contain the blaze. Despite their efforts the fire advanced rapidly and jumped to the neighboring residence at 6933 Echo Bluff Drive forcing dispatchers to elevate the response to a second alarm bringing additional units to the scene.
One firefighter sustained a non-life-threatening injury to an upper extremity during active fire operations and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. No civilian occupants of either home were reported injured during the incident.
In a notable moment during the emergency response DFR personnel successfully resuscitated a cat that had been affected by the fire. The animal’s recovery was among the few positive outcomes from what became a significant two-structure incident.
Firefighters brought the fire under control at approximately 7:15 p.m. roughly 49 minutes after the initial dispatch. Crews remained on scene afterward to extinguish hot spots and monitor for any further spread before officially declaring the fire fully knocked down.
The home where the fire originated sustained severe structural damage. The neighboring property suffered damage primarily to its roof and attic on the side closest to the fire’s point of origin.
The cause of the fire has not been determined and remains under active investigation by Dallas Fire-Rescue.
