2-Year-Old Shot and Killed in South Dallas Thursday Afternoon; No Arrests Made

A 2-year-old child was shot and killed in South Dallas Thursday afternoon in an incident that prompted a sharp response from the city’s police chief, who called the death a senseless tragedy.

Dallas Police officers were called at approximately 1:20 p.m. to the 1700 block of Hemphill Drive, near a park in southern Dallas, after reports of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found the toddler suffering from a gunshot wound. The child was rushed to a hospital, where they were later pronounced dead.

Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux issued a statement Thursday evening in response to the shooting. “This is a heartbreaking and unacceptable loss,” Comeaux said. “The death of a two-year-old is a senseless tragedy. As this investigation continues, we are committed to determining exactly what happened and ensuring accountability where it is warranted.”

The identity of the child has not been released. Dallas police have not provided information about what led to the shooting, and no arrests have been made. No suspect description has been released. The investigation is ongoing.
