A fatal shooting in Fort Worth claimed one man’s life and landed another behind bars in the early hours of Saturday morning following a confrontation at a North Side residence.
Fort Worth police officers were dispatched to a home in the 8300 block of North Riverside Drive shortly after 3:30 a.m. in response to a shooting call. When officers arrived on scene they discovered a man who had sustained a gunshot wound.
Fort Worth Fire Department personnel responded and attempted to render aid but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have not yet publicly identified the deceased man.
A second individual present at the location was taken into custody without incident. The suspect Johnathan Hernandez was observed by responding officers with his hands raised and surrendered peacefully before being detained.
Hernandez was subsequently transported and booked into custody. He now faces a murder charge in connection with the deadly shooting.
Investigators believe the two men involved were known to one another prior to the incident. Authorities have described the shooting as an isolated event and do not believe there is any ongoing threat to the surrounding community.
The investigation remains active and police have not yet released additional details regarding a motive or the specific circumstances that led to the deadly confrontation.
