A British mother flew thousands of miles to North Texas this week seeking justice for her 23-year-old daughter who was shot and killed inside a Prosper home in January 2025. Jane Coates arrived in Collin County determined to meet face-to-face with the district attorney and police officials overseeing the case.
Lucy Harrison died on January 10 2025 after being shot in the chest at her father’s Prosper residence. An autopsy confirmed the manner of death as homicide and found no drugs or alcohol in her system. The bullet traveled front to back at a downward angle from medium range.
Coates and her adviser Radd Seiger visited the Collin County District Courthouse in McKinney on Monday morning hoping to speak directly with District Attorney Greg Willis and lead prosecutor Bill Wirskye. Both officials were reportedly unavailable. A lead investigator in the DA’s office met briefly with the pair and was described as empathetic but no substantive meeting took place.
The group then drove to the Prosper Police Department where they again left without securing a formal meeting with top officials. Coates told reporters outside the department that she felt disappointed but not surprised.
A Collin County grand jury declined to indict Harrison’s father earlier in 2025 after the Prosper Police Department and Texas Rangers investigated the shooting. Coates and Seiger argue the investigation was incomplete and are calling for the case to be reinvestigated and presented to a new grand jury.
“We’re not saying he murdered her” Seiger told reporters. “We don’t know what his intent was but this was not an accident.”
Reports have suggested a possible argument over politics and firearms may have occurred between Harrison and her father before the shooting. Seiger said the family believes there was a disagreement involving Trump and guns but acknowledged they cannot confirm the details.
The Collin County DA’s office released a statement Monday saying the grand jury reviewed all available evidence in June 2025 and determined no criminal indictment was warranted. The Prosper Police Department also issued a statement confirming it will not reopen the investigation given the conclusion of the legal process.
Harrison’s boyfriend was present at the home at the time of the shooting but was not in the room when it occurred. He was questioned by police and permitted to return to the United Kingdom the following day.
Coates and her supporters are scheduled to remain in the area for a week and say they will continue seeking a meeting with top officials until their concerns are formally addressed.
