Garland police are searching for the driver of a white pickup truck who fled the scene after striking a 12-year-old boy riding an electric scooter early Monday morning, leaving the child with serious injuries.
The collision occurred at the intersection of North Garland Avenue and Apollo Road, where the boy was crossing the street when the vehicle struck him. Authorities confirmed the child was transported to a hospital and is currently listed in stable condition despite sustaining significant injuries.
Rather than stopping to render aid or contact emergency services, the driver fled the scene heading eastbound on Apollo Road before turning south on North Garland Avenue. Surveillance footage captured by a camera mounted on a nearby business recorded the truck passing through the area at approximately 8:29 a.m.
The vehicle is described as a white Chevrolet Silverado-style extended cab work truck. Investigators noted the truck had distinctive tall rails over the bed and a bicycle secured to the rear of the vehicle. Those features make the truck relatively identifiable and investigators are hopeful that someone in the community may recognize it.
No detailed description of the driver has been released at this time as witnesses were unable to provide one and police have not yet identified the individual behind the wheel.
