A Dallas man was just minutes away from home when his life was cut short on a busy southeast Dallas boulevard. Now his family is grieving, his bandmates have set down their instruments in mourning, and police are actively searching for the driver who struck him and sped away without stopping to help.
Michael Turner lost his life on the night of July 1st after being hit by a vehicle while crossing South Buckner Boulevard near Elam Road in the Pleasant Grove neighborhood of Dallas. ,Officers responded to the scene on South Buckner Boulevard, just north of the Elam Road intersection, shortly after 10:30 p.m., where investigators determined that a man had been attempting to cross the boulevard when a white sedan traveling northbound struck him., ,The driver of the sedan failed to stop and fled the scene.,
Turner’s family believes he had stepped out on foot after work that evening, simply looking to pick up something to eat. He never made it back.
His mother, Elisa Estrada, was not told right away. Detectives reached out to her oldest son an entire week after the deadly crash. The news arrived without ceremony. “My son didn’t go into detail. He just said, ‘Mom, I hate to tell you this but Mike ain’t here no more,'” Estrada recounted.

Those who knew Michael Turner say his absence leaves an enormous void. His stepsister described him as one of a kind, a man who greeted everyone warmly and made people feel welcomed wherever he went. By day, Turner worked as a server, but it was music where his heart truly lived. He was an active member of a band, and those who played alongside him are now struggling to come to terms with his sudden death.
Estrada shared that the band had been working toward a significant milestone. “They practiced like every week, tried to every day because they were trying to finish an album and they were close to doing that,” she said. The album remains unfinished. The rehearsals have gone silent.
