Four teenagers are in custody after a road rage incident in Fort Worth escalated into a shooting and a vehicle pursuit on Sunday afternoon, leaving one person injured and two firearms recovered.
The trouble began when a driver followed another motorist back to their home, according to Fort Worth Police. Once at the residence, the suspects opened fire toward a family that was outside the house in the 3400 block of Thannisch Avenue.
Officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 1:34 p.m. after receiving a shooting call. When they arrived, they learned that one victim had already been rushed to a nearby hospital in a private vehicle before emergency services arrived.
Investigators later determined the victim’s injuries were caused by broken glass near a front door that was struck by the gunfire rather than by a direct gunshot wound.
Fort Worth Police Department’s Real Time Crime Center played a critical role in tracking down the suspects. Detectives obtained a vehicle description and entered it into the Flock license plate reader system, which returned a match and allowed officers to pinpoint the vehicle’s location.
When officers moved in to stop the vehicle, the driver refused to comply and fled, triggering a pursuit. During the chase, officers observed at least one weapon being thrown from the moving suspect vehicle.
The pursuit came to an end near the 1900 block of Handley Ederville Road. Upon taking the four teenagers into custody, authorities recovered two firearms inside the vehicle.
All four juveniles were detained and transported for questioning. The investigation remains ongoing as Fort Worth Police continue to gather evidence and conduct interviews with the suspects.
