Man Shot and Killed in Uptown Dallas Early Sunday Morning; Suspect Fled Before Officers Arrived

A 35-year-old man was shot and killed in Uptown Dallas in the early hours of Sunday morning after an unknown suspect opened fire and fled the scene before officers arrived, according to the Dallas Police Department.

Officers responded at approximately 2:50 a.m. on May 3 to a shooting call in the 2700 block of McKinney Avenue, one of Uptown’s busiest commercial corridors. When officers arrived, the suspect had already fled the area. The preliminary investigation determined that Jeronimo Avila, 35, had been shot at the location. Dallas Fire-Rescue transported Avila to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased moments after arrival.

No suspect description has been released and no arrests have been made. The circumstances and motive behind the shooting have not been disclosed. The investigation is ongoing and documented under case number 062828-2026.
