A motorcycle passenger was killed early Sunday morning on Woodall Rodgers Freeway in downtown Dallas after falling off the bike and being struck by an unknown vehicle whose driver fled the scene without stopping, the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies responded at approximately 3 a.m. on Sunday, May 31, to the area of Woodall Rodgers Freeway near the ramp to northbound Interstate 35E and Field Street after reports of a crash. When investigators arrived they determined that a passenger had fallen off a motorcycle and was subsequently struck by another vehicle traveling in the area. The driver of that vehicle did not stop and left the scene before deputies arrived.

The victim, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, has not been publicly identified pending notification of next of kin. The motorcycle rider was not among the fatalities.

Both the northbound ramp to Interstate 35E and the ramp from Field Street were closed during the investigation, affecting traffic in the downtown Dallas corridor in the overnight hours.

The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the identity of the hit-and-run driver. No description of the suspect vehicle has been publicly released. The investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information about the crash or the identity of the driver who fled the scene is asked to contact the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office.
