New Mexico Attorney General Sues Epstein’s Lawyer and Accountant Over Alleged Sex Trafficking Cover-Up

New Mexico Attorney General Raúl Torrez filed a lawsuit Wednesday against two of Jeffrey Epstein’s closest professional associates, accusing them of helping conceal a sex trafficking operation at the disgraced financier’s sprawling New Mexico ranch.

The suit targets attorney Darren Indyke and accountant Richard Kahn, both of whom served Epstein for years. Torrez is seeking to block the pair from collecting any payments from Epstein’s estate, which is valued at more than $100 million.

Torrez argued that Epstein’s criminal operation could not have functioned without the support of those around him. “None of this could be done by just one man,” Torrez said. “This was something that was facilitated by handlers, lawyers, accountants, and others who have yet to face real consequences.”

The attorney general made clear that any estate funds should go to Epstein’s victims rather than his former associates. Both Indyke and Kahn have previously testified before Congress that they had no knowledge of Epstein’s abuse.

Epstein purchased the Zorro Ranch in Stanley, located roughly 30 miles south of Santa Fe, in 1993. He constructed a massive 26,700-square-foot mansion on the property, complete with a private airstrip and helipad. Testimony during the 2021 trial of Ghislaine Maxwell alleged that both she and Epstein sexually abused women at the ranch.

Epstein died by suicide in August 2019 at a federal detention facility in New York City while awaiting trial on federal sex trafficking charges. Maxwell was convicted and is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence.

Torrez reopened New Mexico’s investigation into Epstein earlier this year. In August he filed a separate lawsuit against the U.S. Justice Department alleging federal officials were obstructing the state’s probe. A state commission also released a 119-page report in August finding that local authorities repeatedly deferred to investigations in other jurisdictions while Epstein’s alleged crimes in New Mexico went unpunished.

Epstein never faced criminal charges in New Mexico. The Zorro Ranch was sold in 2023 to the family of Don Huffines, a Republican who serves as Texas state comptroller, with proceeds directed toward estate creditors.

Representatives for Indyke and Kahn did not respond to requests for comment Wednesday. The U.S. Justice Department also did not immediately respond to inquiries regarding any federal investigation of the two men in connection with New Mexico.
