Two top officials in Pilot Point Independent School District have been placed on paid administrative leave while an independent investigation into a complaint involving both individuals gets underway. The district’s board of trustees informed families of the decision through a letter sent Wednesday evening.
The Pilot Point ISD Board of Trustees stated the move was made as a precautionary measure to preserve the integrity of the investigative process. The board noted that placing employees on leave during an active complaint is consistent with standard district procedures.
Attorney Scott Cummings has been retained by the district to conduct a third-party independent investigation into the allegations. The board made clear that no findings or conclusions have been reached at this stage of the process.
The nature of the complaint has not been disclosed. District officials cited confidentiality requirements surrounding personnel matters as the reason for withholding specific details.
With the police chief on leave an interim leader has already been identified. Dee Carter has been appointed to serve as acting chief of the district’s police department during the investigation.
The board has also authorized its legal counsel to finalize an agreement with a candidate to serve as acting superintendent. An official announcement regarding that appointment is expected once negotiations are concluded.
The board expressed its commitment to ensuring that ongoing district operations remain unaffected throughout this process. Officials emphasized that the education and well-being of students and staff remain the district’s top priorities.
It is not yet known how long the investigation will take or whether the suspended officials will ultimately return to their positions.
