On April 9, 2026, Henna Havila Martinez was sentenced to six years in prison after admitting to first-degree felony charges related to a sophisticated smuggling operation. The investigation into Martinez began when staff at the James V. Allred Unit discovered leather-bound Bibles containing pages heavily soaked in synthetic cannabinoids.

A subsequent search of her home in 2025 uncovered nearly five pounds of illegal substances in various forms, along with chemicals like acetone used for manufacturing. Evidence from retail store surveillance also linked her to the shipment of these illicit packages. Although Martinez had previously been a volunteer for the Texas Prisons Alliance, the organization confirmed she was acting independently and was removed from her position immediately following her arrest.
