Two contract workers were rushed to the hospital Monday morning after a gas line exploded during a pressure test near the Alexan Riveredge Apartments in Dallas’s Design District neighborhood.
Dallas Fire-Rescue confirmed the workers sustained non-critical injuries and were transported to a local hospital. No residents, firefighters, or nearby business employees were reported hurt in the incident.
According to fire officials a contractor was in the process of pressure testing a gas line when it unexpectedly exploded. The cause of the explosion during the testing procedure remains under investigation.
Atmos Energy released a statement clarifying that the pipeline was being tested using air and did not involve natural gas at the time of the incident. The company stated that natural gas service to the surrounding area was not disrupted and that no damage occurred to the pipeline itself.
Dallas police responded to assist with traffic control while Atmos crews worked to address the affected line. Some road blockages remain in the area due to ongoing construction impacting local businesses near 1200 Turtle Creek Boulevard.
Authorities have not confirmed whether Monday’s explosion is connected to a separate gas leak at the same apartment complex that occurred more than a week ago. That earlier incident displaced hundreds of residents who were unable to return to their homes for nearly a week.
Atmos Energy said safety remains its top priority and extended thanks to Dallas Fire-Rescue for their response. Residents in the immediate area do not appear to be facing evacuation orders at this time.
