A shooting at the Camp Wisdom DART Station in South Oak Cliff sent at least one person to the hospital Friday evening, prompting a police investigation and causing significant disruptions to rail service along the Blue Line.
Dallas Area Rapid Transit officials confirmed the incident was first reported to authorities at approximately 5 p.m. DART police are taking the lead on the investigation while Dallas Police Department officers are also involved in the response.
One victim was transported to a local hospital and is currently listed in stable condition. A second individual suffered a minor injury while fleeing the scene and did not require hospitalization.
The Camp Wisdom Station serves as a key stop along the DART Rail Blue Line which runs through South Oak Cliff connecting passengers to destinations across the Dallas metro area. The shooting triggered an immediate police presence at the station halting normal rail operations in the area.
DART issued a service alert notifying Blue Line riders of potential delays stemming from the ongoing police activity at Camp Wisdom Station. To accommodate affected passengers a bus shuttle was placed into service running between the Ledbetter and UNT Dallas stations while law enforcement continued working the scene.
DART expressed regret over the disruption to commuters and encouraged riders to plan for additional travel time. Officials did not provide an estimated timeline for when full rail service would resume at the station.
Investigators had not released information about a suspect or the circumstances that led to the shooting as of early Friday evening. It remains unclear whether the shooting occurred on the platform or in the surrounding area of the station.
The Oak Cliff neighborhood has seen ongoing public safety concerns in recent years and incidents at public transit locations have drawn attention to security at DART facilities across the region. DART operates its own police force to handle law enforcement matters at stations and on rail lines throughout the system.
Witnesses and anyone with information related to the shooting are encouraged to contact DART Police or the Dallas Police Department. Authorities are reviewing available surveillance footage from the station as part of the investigation.
Commuters using the Blue Line during the Friday evening rush hour were urged to check the DART website and app for real-time service updates. The agency confirmed that bus bridge service between Ledbetter and UNT Dallas stations would remain active until normal operations could safely resume.
The investigation is active and ongoing. Additional details including a possible motive and suspect description are expected to be released as authorities gather more information from the scene.
