Witnesses at the scene of a devastating collision in Dallas’ Buckner Terrace neighborhood took decisive action to prevent a suspected drunk driver from fleeing. The crash, which occurred around 1:58 a.m. on Sunday, April 5, resulted in the deaths of two men.

According to a police affidavit, 22-year-old Isaac Chacon was traveling through the intersection of Military Parkway and North Jim Miller Road when he allegedly ignored a red light, slamming into another vehicle. Following the impact, Chacon and a female passenger reportedly abandoned their car and attempted to escape on foot. However, bystanders intervened; one witness managed to physically detain Chacon while another alerted emergency services.

The victims were identified as 51-year-old Adrian Dion Marshall and an unnamed male companion. Marshall was transported to a local hospital where he later passed away at 2:27 a.m., while the second victim was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

During questioning, Chacon claimed the traffic signal was green and that he had been driving alone after leaving an afterparty. Despite his assertions that he felt “safe to drive” because he had stopped drinking hours prior, responding officers noted a strong odor of alcohol. Furthermore, Chacon failed a field sobriety test, during which he struggled with basic cognitive tasks such as counting backward.

Chacon is currently being held at the Dallas County jail on a $1 million bond. He faces serious legal consequences, including charges of intoxication manslaughter and collision involving death.
