A predawn altercation in Fort Worth turned deadly early Thursday morning when gunfire erupted between two individuals leaving one man dead and another wounded.
Fort Worth Police Department officers from the East Division were dispatched shortly after 2 a.m. on August 1 following reports of a physical fight at the intersection of Miller Avenue and East Berry Street on the city’s east side.
When officers arrived they discovered a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound in the 4100 block of East Berry Street. Despite the efforts of first responders who worked to stabilize the man at the scene he was pronounced dead before he could be transported to a medical facility.
As investigators began piecing together what happened they learned that a second person had also been struck by gunfire during the incident. That individual was transported to a nearby hospital in a private vehicle rather than by emergency services.
The second victim sustained a gunshot wound to the leg. Authorities confirmed that person is currently in stable condition and the injuries are not considered life threatening.
