An 18-year-old man is dead following a shooting in Garland late Monday night, and police are now working to piece together the events that led to his death.

Garland police responded to the 100 block of South Barnes Drive shortly before 10:45 p.m. after receiving a call about an injured person in the area. When officers arrived, they encountered a man who told them he had been involved in a physical confrontation with two other males during which gunfire erupted.

As officers searched the surrounding area, they discovered Brandon Eris Robinson Jr., 18, lying unresponsive on the ground. Garland Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced Robinson dead.

Investigators determined that the man who initially contacted police was the one who discharged the weapon, and that a bullet struck Robinson during the altercation. A third individual who was present during the incident fled the scene before officers arrived.

Detectives have since identified the third person involved and are working to conduct a formal interview. Authorities believe all parties involved were known to one another and have confirmed this was not a random act of violence.

The investigation remains active as Garland police work to establish a complete timeline and determine the full circumstances surrounding Robinson’s death. No arrests have been publicly announced at this time.
