A reported kidnapping in Burleson turned deadly Thursday morning after a high-speed police chase spanning multiple North Texas counties ended with two people found shot to death inside a vehicle near Cresson.

Burleson police responded around 7:45 a.m. to the 700 block of West Hidden Creek Parkway following reports of an armed man outside a residence. Witnesses reported seeing the man force a woman into a vehicle before fleeing the scene. Investigators indicated the two appeared to be estranged spouses.

Officers attempted to pull over the vehicle as it headed south on State Highway 174 but the driver refused to stop triggering a pursuit. The chase moved toward Chisholm Trail Parkway before ultimately ending near Bourland Field Airport in Cresson.

When law enforcement brought the vehicle to a stop both occupants were discovered dead inside from apparent gunshot wounds. Preliminary findings point to a murder-suicide though the full circumstances surrounding the deaths remain under active investigation.

Burleson police confirmed that no officers discharged their weapons at any point during the incident.

The response drew resources from across the region. The Johnson County Parker County and Tarrant County sheriff’s offices all assisted along with the Fort Worth Police Department’s Air 1 helicopter unit and the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Authorities have not yet publicly released the names of the two individuals involved pending further investigation and notification of next of kin.
