One Killed and Nine Wounded in South Side Chicago Mass Shooting Late Saturday

A deadly mass shooting erupted on Chicago’s South Side late Saturday night, leaving one man dead and nine others wounded after gunfire broke out in a crowd near South Cottage Grove Avenue.

Chicago police officers were already on the scene attempting to disperse a large gathering in the 5400 block of South Cottage Grove Avenue in the Washington Park neighborhood when shots rang out just after 11:30 p.m.

A 35-year-old man was struck multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed his death shortly after the shooting.

Six additional victims were transported to nearby hospitals and are currently listed in good condition. Police are still working to confirm the conditions of three other individuals who were also taken to area hospitals following the attack.

Those three unaccounted victims include a 37-year-old woman, a 23-year-old woman, and a 35-year-old man. Authorities have not yet released updates on their medical status.

No Chicago police officers were struck by gunfire during the incident. Investigators with Area One detectives have taken over the case as the search for suspects continues.

As of this report no arrests have been made and no suspects have been identified in connection with the shooting.
