The Dallas Police Department is investigating a tragic incident that occurred early Tuesday morning on the Lyndon B. Johnson Freeway service road. Authorities have identified the deceased as 62-year-old Theadus De Esting Gaines, who was discovered by officers near the intersection of Coit Road around 12:30 a.m.

Preliminary findings indicate that an unidentified motorist traveling eastbound struck Gaines and fled the scene without providing assistance. While the investigation is ongoing, police have not yet released a description of the suspect or the vehicle involved. Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information or potential video footage of the area to come forward anonymously via Crime Stoppers.

Under Texas law, failing to stop and render aid in a fatal collision is a second-degree felony, and the city continues to focus on safety improvements for these high-speed corridors through its Vision Zero initiative.
